tinkling the ivories

Because the piano we have at home is old and off-key and because the mother has been in a generous mood lately, the sisters have been kept busy looking for a new one.

The mother asked me the other day if I want the old piano at my place instead of throwing it out. I hardly think the old thing can survive the move. It would probably arrive with most of the strings broken and then cost me a bomb in repairs.

But if it is possible to move it over intact, I would take it in an instant. Apart from providing some much-needed cultural respite, it will also provide some great ammunition to drive the neighbours insane.
