MM Lee to advise Citigroup on strategy and global business

(SINGAPORE) Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew has become Citigroup's first special adviser, the world's biggest financial services group said yesterday. He will be consulted on international affairs and developments that affect the group's business.
Mr Lee, who has taken up the post with immediate effect, will advise on strategic directions and global business, Citigroup said in a statement yesterday.
'Minister Mentor Lee is a modern-day visionary and a unique statesman who is respected worldwide, and it is a privilege for Citigroup to benefit from his understanding, insights and experience,' said Citigroup's chairman and chief executive Charles Prince. 'I am honoured that Minister Mentor Lee has chosen to be a special adviser to Citigroup and look forward to having the opportunity to work closely with him as we pursue our international growth strategy.'
Mr Lee is also chairman of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) and an adviser to JPMorgan Chase, among other corporate roles.
Citigroup said he is widely recognised as the architect of modern Singapore, having transformed the island state from a colonial trading outpost into a city state.
'He led Singapore as its first prime minister from 1965 to 1990, developing the nation's constitutional system, governing institutions, and the economic and political strategies that have propelled the nation into the international arena,' Citigroup said.
Mr Lee was appointed senior minister in 1990 and became minister mentor to the government in 2004.
