deep thoughts

There are thunderclouds on the horizon.
Would it rain? Or would the sun decide to come out?
The coming days are going to be a challenge.
I hope we walk out as winners, not losers.....

I was reminded the other day of a remark I made sometime back about something being "an urge that became a choice". Wow, it sounded so intellectual it took me a while to recall that I did say that.
But it got me thinking.
Longman defines urge as "a strong wish or need"; and choice as "an act of choosing or a chance to choose". What then is choose? As defined further, choose is "to pick out freely, and after consideration, from a number of things, possibilities, etc".
When you have an urge, can it still be a choice?
If the key words here are "freely" and "after consideration", then when you have an urge (which suggests a powerful need that has to be fulfilled), how can you still make a choice (which by definition should be made of free will and conscious thought)?
So, how many times have you said firmly that you have made a CHOICE, when all you had done was to satisfy an URGE?
Think about it.
A little heavy for Thursday maybe, but then again, in the fast food world we are in today, when is it ever a good day to think?
Bleah.

Had a long and wonderful chat with the good friend last night. She of the NY shopping trip and lovely new boyfriend, and I have not caught up properly for a while. The just-passed festive season was also the first we did not spend together for the longest time.
We grumbled and bitched and complained and laughed, about the things and the times which had slipped past us over the past few months.
It was a great moment. Thank you my dear friend.

And it brings me to my next thought of the day.
She was telling me how at a night out which I missed because of my trip, she made a point which had apparently astounded the less conscious among us. Incidentally, what she said is one of the things I have believed in for a long time.
When it comes to relationships, it's all about timing. Wrong man wrong time, definitely wrong. Wrong man right time, it's wrong. Right man wrong time, still wrong. You have to wait until it's the right man and the right time.
Wrong man right time? When everything else is so right but the man is not. You like his family, he likes your family, everyone likes everyone, everyone thinks you are a perfect match. But you know that he is not the one.
Right man wrong time? You know you found the one you have been looking for, a fact that completely blows you away. But he is not ready. Something in the air is just not right.
Sigh.
Who to say which is the sadder scenario?
For the new year, my wish for you all is that your timings would be synchronized...
